Guardianship of Minor
questions & answers
Question: I want to live with my aunt who lives a town away from my parents. My mom won't let Move but I have my Aunts permission to live with her is it legal to move out without my parents permission? My aunt is a safe place too.
Answer: To specifically answer your question, yes it is illegal to move out without your parents permission. They are your legal guardians till you turn 18. At that time, you are considered an adult and may live with whom you want. If there is a specific reason for you not wanting to live with your parents (i.e. they are abusive, not taking care of you) your aunt may want to speak with an attorney regarding guardianship of a minor. This would mean forms would need to be file and a court hearing held to determine if it is in your best interest to be removed from the home and your aunt (if she is willing) be your legal guardian.
