Parental Rights & Obligations
questions & answers
Question: Can the father of our child bar his sister (our child's Aunt) from visiting if I agree to allow the visits? She has been in our child's life since birth and would often babysit.
Answer: Aunts and uncles do not have the same parenting or visitation rights as mothers and fathers, therefore the father of your child could bar any family members from not visiting his child if he wished. The child’s father could obtain a restraining order against his sister if he believes it is within his child’s best interest, in which case you could not permit her to see the child. For further advice on family matters, you may choose to consult with an attorney.
