Question: If an attorney tells you not to contact someone, is that legally binding?
Answer: Depending on the circumstances involving the contact, continued contact with a person may be unlawful. Parties may secure a variety of court orders preventing contact outside of court. Such orders include orders of protection as defined in A.R.S. § 13-3602 and injunctions against harassment as defined in A.R.S. § 12-1809. Contact in an attempt to collect a debt may be forbidden under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. For fact-specific information and advice, please consult an attorney.
