Question: My mother-in-law agreed to store my belongings in a shed that I gave her. My husband who I am divorcing took it out of the shed and let it get rained on ruining all my belongings. Is my mother-in-law and my husband responsible

Answer: It is definitely possible that a court of law would hold your husband and/or mother-in-law responsible for destroying your belongings. It would depend on the particular facts. You would need to sue one or both of them for compensation. The specific court in which you would file a civil lawsuit would be determined by amount of monetary damages you seek (usually the Small Claims Division if $3,500 or less; Justice Court if $10,000 or less; and Superior Court if more than $10,000).
