Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: How much financial info do I need to provide a landlord, ie; account numbers, amount of money in stocks, bonds and municipal funds. I am very concerned about disclosing this type of information w/ all the hacking going on in our society today...
Answer: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulates what personal information must be provided to 3rd parties. Under the "Fair Credit Reporting Act" there are limits to who can access your credit report. There must be a valid need for the information, thus, landlords would fall under this exception. Here is a link from the FTC which goes over your rights as a consumer. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/pdf-0096-fair-credit-reporting-act.pdf
