Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: I live in section eight house the state pays the rent every month but i only paid half of the deposit and paying monthly payments towards the remaining balance of the deposit can u get evicted from not paying deposit on time
Answer: Assuming that the landlord agreed to the monthly payments, the landlord can evict you for not paying the rest of the deposit if you broke the agreement. Agreement or not, the landlord must give you a notice saying you have 5 days to catch up on the unpaid amount. If you do, that's that. If you don't, he has to go to court to evict you. You should also talk to your caseworker at the Housing AUthority about this problem. Depending where you live, you may be able to get help paying the rest of the deposit.
