Question: Landlord is telling us to vacate the premise so he may renovate. We have lived in these apartments for 5 yrs almost and 3 yrs without a lease my son and I are on SSI and we have no resources or family to help move we dont drive either can he make us leave without having to relocate us

Answer: Unfortunately, when a tenant is living in a residential unit through a month-to-month rental agreement that has no specific end date, the landlord may terminate that arrangement without explanation so long as the landlord provides the tenant with 30 days’ written notice. A new landlord is required to honor only whatever existing agreement the previous landlord had with the tenant.
