Question: If my old landlord sold the property. Does the new landlord have the right to evict us and how long do we have to stay before we have to leave?

Answer: Specific details in the lease should outline the rights of the tenant and landlord in the event that the property is sold. At the end of a lease agreement, either the landlord or the tenant may choose not to renew the lease and are not required to disclose their reasons. If a unit is leased on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis, the landlord could choose not to release the unit much sooner. If a tenant is in violation of the lease agreement or fails to pay rent on time, notice can be given and the landlord can start a formal eviction process.
