Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: Put a deposit on a two week rental in Dec 2016 for March 2017. Now I am being told the agreement cannot be honored and my deposit will be refunded. Is this totally legal?
Answer: This sounds like a vacation rental. And I cannot determine from the information provided whether it is in Arizona. Unfortunately this does not give me enough information to respond to your question. In any event, you should look to any lease or contract that was executed in conjunction with the rental. It is very probable that if you have been made whole with the return of your deposit, you are not entitled to any relief unless you can demonstrate that a comparable rental for the same time period is more expensive. This of course depends on the nature of the rental and the jurisdiction. Please note that I am providing general information based on the very limited information available to me. I am unable to provide you with legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created hereby. I wish you the best in this and all your endeavors.
