Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: I moved in to my new apartment and it was broken into the very next morning while i was gone. The landlord change the locks but what can i do legally in order to replace what was stolen?
Answer: If a tenant’s belongings are stolen from within a rented dwelling, and the tenant does not have insurance which will cover the replacement of the tenant’s belongings, then the tenant may be able to sue the landlord only if the tenant can establish that the landlord was somehow responsible for what happened because the landlord failed to fulfill some particular duty.
