Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: Can my landlord decide to require payment online through a 3rd party that was not available at the time the lease was signed? Can I refuse to provide my personal bank information to said 3rd party?
Answer: As a very general rule, the terms and conditions of a rental agreement may not be altered by either party without the written consent of the other party until the agreement expires, at which point the tenant may choose to accept the new term or condition (and renew) or decline (and move out). In the sort of situation you describe, it is usually recommended that the landlord and the tenant attempt to find a mutually satisfactory solution together.
