Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: Does my landlord have the right to charge me half the rent if my roommate uses 3 rooms and I only use 1. Which is 1/4 of the rental property
Answer: The answer to this question depends entirely how your rental agreement is set up. Are you and your roommate both on the lease? If so, the landlord has no reason to care how the space is divided. You are both responsible for the rent. If your roommate is the only one on the lease, the landlord should be sending the bill to him. You would then be responsible for paying your agreed upon share to your roommate.
