Question: MY BOYFRIEND OF 4 YEARS LEFT HIS 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WITH ME WHILE HE WENT OUT OF STATE. I WANT TO GET HER ENROLLED IN SCHOOL AND ALSO GET HER INSURANCE AND I CANT DO ALL OF THAT WITH HIM BEING GONE. WHAT ALL DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. I WANT TO ENROLL HER IN SCHOOL, TAKE HER TO DOCTORS AND DENTISTS APPT AND EVERYTHING ELSE A MOTHER SHOULD DO. ?

Answer: The boyfriend should have either gone through the courts to sign over temporary custody or guardianship of the child.  Both of these would need to go thru the superior court of your county.  If the mother of the child is in the picture, she has the ability to sign her up for insurance, school, etc.  You can go to http://www.azcourts.gov/selfservicecenter/Self-Service-Forms to look and download the forms needed for guardianship.  You may also want to talk with an attorney to find out what is best for the child and you.
