questions & answers
Question: How come I am Being served with child support through DES? Also my son who is disabled is covered through the state, there is no child care expenses and clothes and food is split. The mother of our kids makes 30$+ an hour as a nurse can you even file for cash assistance making that much? And it seems like you could just file online and someone gets screwed because des believes the application who filed. I am not a dead beat Dad and I am so active in my kids lives...
Answer: Disabled children get support by law through DES. If DES believes you should be paying some of the child's expenses, it can file for child support. The mother can also request child support. You may want to contact DES and ask about the basis of the claim. You may also want to obtain advice from a lawyer. There are 3 programs in Arizona that you can use to get some inexpensive legal advice and guidance. One is the Modest Means Program. For a $75.00 fee, the Modest Means Program will arrange a one hour consult with an experienced attorney. The telephone number is (866) 637-5341. Both the Maricopa County Bar Association and the Pima County Bar Association have lawyer referral services that offer a 30 minute consult with an experienced attorney. Maricopa County's Lawyer Referral Service offers a 30 minute consultation for a fee of $40.00. The telephone number is (602) 257-4434. Pima County's Lawyer Referral Service offers a 30 minute consultation for a fee of $35.00. The telephone number is (520) 623-4625.
