Question: My landlord sent a 5 day notice for Mays rent due on the 14th but I have a 3 day grace period. He put on the notice that I still owe $215 from April's rent which is not correct because I paid it. He admitted over the phone that the $215 was a mistake. Should I now make him send a corrected 5 day notice. I'm scared if I only pay May's rent he can still screw me over since the 5 day notice says I owe another $215.
Answer: Having a written document acknowledging payment of a debt nearly always improves and speeds up the resolution of any disputes over amounts which may or may not be owed. If a verbal acknowledgement from a landlord is unsatisfactory, a tenant can request a written acknowledgement.
