Criminal Law
questions & answers
Question: I have never been convicted of a crime before. I just moved here to Arizona about two weeks ago. I got a citation for urinating in public. Should I plea not guilty and seek counsel? Or plea guilty? If I do plea guilty will there be a criminal record on my file? I am a medical student, and do not want a criminal record. Thank you for your time.
Answer: The Arizona Revised Statutes, Section 41-1751, requires the courts to submit information to the Department of Public Safety about certain felony or misdemeanor cases, including ones when the defendant pleads guilty. The Department of Public Safety is in charge of the storage and dissemination of criminal record information in the state of Arizona according to A.R.S. § 41-1750.
