Question: My boss said I had to pay him $3,000 Dollars for damages to his truck or I Did not have a job anymore. Is this legal?
Answer: In Section 23-1501 a employer or employee has the right to sever the employment arrangement, if they have not already formed and signed a contract stating otherwise. (http://www.azleg.gov/ars/23/01501.htm) Also, subsection viii states: “the exercise of the right to be free from the extortion of fees or gratuities as a condition of employment as protected by section 23-202.” This means that the employer is not allowed to blackmail employee as “a condition of employment.”
