Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: I accidentally over paid my rent. Is there a timeline for when my landlord should repay me?
Answer: The landlord is required to act in "good faith." This means that he/she is required to compensate you for the overpayment. Ask the landlord to state in writing what he plans to do with the overpayment. Such as apply the overpayment to the following month's rent, or reimburse you by some other method such as check or cash.
If you live in an apartment complex, contact the property manager, the name is usually printed on the lease. Talk to the territorial manager and explain the situation.
